Holiday house, Makarov, region of Kiev![]()
View to the house and terrace from the yard
Initially the client wanted to build a simple summer house. As it often happens in the Ukraine, the house was planned by the owner himself without taking into consideration location, orientation and functional zoning. Only after some time the friend-architect was asked for advice. The house was then orientated in a correct way and received its present laconic shape. The house "looks" towards the entrance of the village and seems to move in direction to the pine forest. The plan is reduced to the minimal needs, with technical and utility rooms in the basement, kitchen and double-height living room on the ground floor, library and bedroom on the first floor, which opens onto the ground floor with a balcony. The house is surrounded by a wing-shaped veranda, offering enough space for the owners and a large number of neighbours and friends. At a later stage the client started building a workshop with guestroom on the same site. |
